We have two rescued tabby cats that live with us. Toaster tries to steal my paint brushes or sneak a sip of water out of my paint buckets. 

After he realizes that won’t work, he will lay down and watch me paint, or take/fake a nap. 

I think he senses when I am finished or when I’m not particularly paying attention to him, because then he will sneak and try to grab something.

Right after this picture was taken he had the object he was reaching for in his mouth. He realized I was busy taking this picture, and so he went for the opportunity. 

He’s a stinker. That’s our Toaster. We love him.
